What E2 Means
On DCS RF24D outdoor refrigerated drawers, E2 is the condenser fan motor error. The DCS service manual says the control watches the fan’s current draw and flags E2 when it reads too high or too low. With the fan stopped, the condenser under the drawers cannot shed heat, which outdoors in summer turns into a warm drawer quickly. The alarm sounds six times a minute and the display flashes the code.
Common Causes of E2
- Condenser fan blade jammed by debris, nesting insects or ice
- Condenser fan motor wires disconnected or corroded by moisture
- Condenser fan motor worn out after years of outdoor heat
- Control board fan output failing
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug the drawers, then look at the kick-plate grille: leaves, lint and spider webs in an outdoor kitchen can pack the condenser and bind the fan. Vacuum the grille face only; do not reach inside. Plug back in and listen for the fan behind the grille once the compressor starts. If E2 returns, the drawers need a technician.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The fan sits next to the compressor and its live wiring behind the lower panel, and the drawers must be pulled out of the island to reach it safely.
- Running the drawers with a stalled fan overheats the compressor, so repeated resets while “seeing if it clears” can turn a fan repair into a compressor replacement.
