On the 36-inch BE1-36RCI-N the sear burner takes one of the burner positions, so owners notice sooner when it underperforms. DCS’s own guide warns that Series 9 ignitors do not make the familiar clicking sound: you hear the burner light rather than a spark, which confuses people used to older grills into thinking the ignition is dead.
When a burner on this grill fails to light, the DCS checklist runs through the dial being held in for two seconds, the gas supply, the power supply and GFCI, a blocked burner inlet, and only then the ignitor itself. We follow the same order on site.
