What OFF flashing Means
On the DCS 15-inch outdoor ice machine (RF15IR3 / RF15IL3 and the earlier RF15I units), “OFF” flashing once a second with no tone is the bin sensor error. The DCS guide says a temperature sensor has failed and the machine goes straight into an OFF state, so ice production stops. It is different from a steady “OFF”, which only means the machine was switched off with the ON/OFF key.
Common Causes of OFF flashing
- Bin temperature sensor open or shorted
- Sensor connector corroded by moisture in the ice bin area
- Sensor wire damaged when the bin or ice scoop was removed
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Look closely: steady “OFF” means press and hold ON/OFF for three seconds until “ICE” appears. Flashing “OFF” does not respond to that. Unplug the machine for a minute and plug it back in once. If it still flashes, empty the bin, shut the water supply valve and book service; the guide’s instruction is to have the sensor replaced.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The sensor is mounted inside the ice-making section next to the water system, and reaching it means taking apart the evaporator cover and the water distribution parts.
- The drain pump and interior light stay powered even in OFF, so the machine is never fully dead unless it is unplugged.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
